Meet Meredith Grey. She's a woman trying to lead a real life while doing a job that makes having a real life impossible.

Meredith is on the job at Seattle Grace as a first year intern with at least 20 others. Each year the interns are split into groups are assigned to residents which often results in them getting to have a support system or just a possible chance to get to know the competition.

Meredith has been assigned to senior resident Miranda Bailey, infamously known as "The Nazi" for her work ethic and her attitude. Bailey gets things done and she doesn't take any bull.

In Meredith's group are 4 other first-year interns: Cristina Yang, Isobel "Izzie" Stevens, George O'Malley and Alex Karev. Yesterday they were students but today they are doctors at Seattle Grace Hospital. They are participating in the toughest surgical residency program west of Harvard. But their new jobs aren't the only things they have to keep them busy. There are always their personal lives. That is, If they get a chance to have them...

Meredith is a one of the surgeon in the top of her class. She's somewhat considered royalty because her mother, Ellis Grey, was a noted pioneering surgeon known for making breakthroughs in the specialty as a talented surgeon and as a woman who broke barriers. Only thing is Ellis now lives in Roseridge where she suffers from a tragic and devastating illness but she doesn't want anyone to know. Meredith keeps her mother's secret because she asks her to.

Cristina is highly competitive and driven but usually lacks the people skills required to do her job effectively. Bedside manner is not her strong suit. Izzie grew up on the other side of the tracks and worked her way up by paying off her tutition by modeling. She's beautiful but sometimes she's too personal with her patients and may run into trouble when it comes to letting go. George is warm and kind and he has the hugest crush on Meredith. Besides having a habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time he can't seem to move out of the "just friends" zone. Kavev is a jerk but he's honest about his cutthroat attitude. He's arrogant and somtimes he's idiotic.

The five interns struggle to find people that they can connect to and often find that they only people they have time to meet, date, or hang out with all work at the hospital.

So I guess it's no wonder that the person Meredith meets in the Emerald City Bar across the street turns out to be her bosses' boss. Derek Shepherd is an attending at Seattle Grace and he just moved here from New York City. Her likes ferry boats and, like almost everyone in the hospital, has secrets to share. Derek is a flirtatious neurosurgeon who Meredith insists she can't date because of hospital politics. Preston Burke is arrogant but with a good amount of reason. He's one of the best cardio-thorasic surgeons in the country with one of the lowest patient mortality rates. The only problem with his arrogance is that it may make him less suited for the job of chief of surgery in comparision to Derek.

The job of chief of surgery currently belongs to Dr. Richard Webber, Seattle Grace's paternal, but no-nonsense leader.

Grey's Anatomy is a drama about the intensity of medical training mixed with the funny, sexy, and sometimes painful lives of people who are about to discover that neither medicine nor relationships can be defined in black and white. Real life only comes in shades of grey.

Whether you're into sports, sunshine or salsa, Miami sizzles all year long with exciting entertainment venues and attractions, world-class hotels and restaurants, great beaches and a nightlife that never sleeps. While South Beach, chock full of hip nightclubs and pastel-hued buildings, gets all the press, other sections of Miami are just as hot and offer culture, recreation and more. Spend the day soaking in the sights and sounds of Little Havana or soaking up the rays at Haulover Beach Park. Explore the Art Deco District or take the kids to the zoo. At the end of the day, chill out at any of the area's cool bars and nightclubs. In Miami at night, the day is just the beginning.
Miami
South Beach:
People watching is a great pastime in Miami's South Beach, which draws celebrities and beautiful people in skimpy swim attire to see and be seen. The wide and fine, white sand-covered beaches are popular spots for fashion photo shoots, so you're sure to see models. The area is known for its hip clubs and wild nightlife as well as numerous excellent restaurants.
A great place to vacation! Sunny, beautiful, beaches, gorgeous people... how can you go wrong?

Emily Carlson traveled to Barcelona on her 6 month study abroad overseas. Barcelona was amazing.. I loved the sangria, Picasso museum, and the quaint cobblestone streets. My friends and I were able to walk almost everywhere in Barcelona. Although some places were quite a hike, we managed to get everywhere by foot. My favorite part of the trip was the Gaudi architecture. In particular La Sagrada Familia was amazing... (we actually climbed to the top) Park Guell was art decco looking (I loved the lizards!) and of course Casa Batllo (which looks like a dragon on the roof). I absolutly fell in love with Gaudi's work, and had a fabulous time in Barcelona. The only bad part was the hostel we stayed in. There were about 16 of us to a room, one shower, and one computer. The espresso at breakfast was good, but there was a curfew at night! (So, you just have to stay out till morning:) The good thing is, Barcelona never sleeps. There are cafes open all night, and street performers begging for your money. Barcelona is a must see Eurpean city!

How bad do you want it, Jayhawk fans? Most Kansas supporters would rather eat glass than root for Missouri. On Saturday, if they have the Jayhawks’ best wishes in mind, they won’t have a choice.

If Missouri beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship, and subsequently reaches the National Championship, it will markedly improve the Jayhawks’ shot at a BCS game, according to most bowl projections. Should Missouri lose on Saturday, Ohio State will ascend into the top two of the BCS standings and reach the Championship Game. Oklahoma, obviously, would make the BCS as the Big 12’s representative. This would take away an at-large spot, because Missouri is expected to be a lock regardless of Saturday’s outcome.

If the Sooners are victorious, Illinois, who will likely move into the required top 14 of the BCS standings next week to grab an at-large bid, would likely become the Big 10’s representative in the Rose Bowl and probably shut Kansas out of a $14 million BCS payday, according to projections.

If the Tigers, who opened Sunday evening in Las Vegas as three-point underdogs, avenge their only loss of the season and defeat Oklahoma, the Fiesta Bowl has widely been speculated as the most likely Jayhawk destination.

The final BCS standings and bowl pairings will be announced on at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 on Fox.

Some Jayhawk fans are worried about a nightmare scenario where the Cotton Bowl would select home-state and tradition-rich Texas — which could drop Kansas to the Holiday Bowl.

Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony said there was no sense worrying about scenarios and that the Athletics Department wanted to watch the process play out. That didn’t, however, prevent them from looking at projections.

“The process is fun to go through,” Marchiony said. “Who is going to go where and all that stuff. Of course we hope to go to a BCS Bowl. That is our number one goal right now.”

Larry Wahl, an Orange Bowl representative, said that despite speculation that Kansas’ most possible BCS destination is the Fiesta Bowl, the Orange Bowl was still considering them.

“There are a lot of schools that we are still considering. KU is in that mix,” Wahl said. “They did everything that was asked of them. They won every game that was asked, except for the last one. They are worthy of their standing, there is no question.”

Wahl said Kansas’ lack of historical success in football would not prevent the Orange Bowl from selecting them — last year the Orange hosted Wake Forest, who does not have a great football history and is a smaller university than Kansas. Wahl said Wake Forest sold out their ticket allotment.

Charlie Fiss, a Cotton Bowl representative, said his game is looking at Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas. Fiss said he didn’t know what would happen this weekend and didn’t know which way his group would vote.

“We’ve done our homework,” Fiss said. “We know Kansas fans will travel great, regardless of whether it is basketball or football. They are top-five — that speaks for itself. We know the fans will follow them.”

Fiss said the Cotton Bowl, which pays $3 million per institution, has been in contact with the Kansas Athletic Department. He declined to specifically address the issue of his bowl possibly taking a three-loss Longhorn squad over the one-loss Jayhawks, saying the group would look at a bevy of factors including record, team strength, fan base, television attractiveness, and more.

Fiss did say Kansas rates high in the fan department: “KU, name the sport, whether is football or basketball, we know they have great fans.”

Kansas has hosted representatives from every BCS Bowl except for the Rose this year. The Cotton and Holiday Bowls also both sent representatives to the KU-MU game on Saturday. The Fiesta Bowl has sent more representatives to Kansas games than any other bowl.

Fiesta Bowl representatives did not immediately return University Daily Kansan phone calls seeking comment for this story.

Marchiony said the Athletics Department was not concerned that a lack of prestige would hurt the football team in bowl selections and said, “we think the process will play out fairly.”

Marchiony said the high rating of the Kansas-Missouri football game on Saturday spoke for itself.

CBSsportsline is projecting Kansas into the Fiesta against Arizona State: “With our prediction of Missouri in the title game, we think Kansas will still be an at-large pick with only one loss, especially if the Fiesta Bowl loses the Big 12 champion. With the Fiesta Bowl’s other selection, it will take the Pac-10 runner up, which will be Arizona State. Illinois could also sneak in here instead of the Sun Devils.”

MSNBC projected the same Jayhawk-Sun Devils matchup. “If Missouri goes to the title game, a one-loss Kansas team will be an attractive at-large choice for the Fiesta.”

In other words, for possibly the first time ever, Jayhawks fans on Saturday will become Tiger fans.

Runners in Las Vegas and Liverpool go race to race in a quest for a Guinness World Record
By Michelle Hamilton

Location: Las Vegas Great Santa Run Las Vegas, Nevada

When: December 9

Why would nearly 4,000 runners dress up as St. Nick and run around Vegas? Besides the chance to bump into Elvis (a few hundred times), they were hoping to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. At the second annual Great Santa Run 5-K, this band of merry men and women donned Santa pants, coats, hats, beards, and belts in an effort to surpass the record for the largest Santa gathering. That mark--3,921--had been set the previous year at a 5-K in Liverpool, England. Taking hold of the record would not come easy, however: The Brits had begun a serious public-relations campaign back in August, when a local paper published a story headlined "5 Reasons Why We'll Sleigh Las Vegas Santas."

Among them: "Everyone is too busy gambling." Vegas racing officials fired back with a letter to the Liverpool race director stating the "7 Lucky Reasons Why Vegas Will Win."

Number two: "Our residents don't do much gambling, we just count your money when you go home."The friendly jawing turned out to rally support for both events. On December 3, close to 5,000 red-suited runners showed up for the Liverpool Santa Dash. The headline the next morning: "Beat That If You Can, Vegas!"

Sin City came close: The nearly 4,000 Santas (exact figures were not available) who showed up for the fun run doubled the total from 2005. Alas, it was not enough to beat the Brits. Official word from Guinness won't come for a few months. No matter; both cities are already gearing up for next December's races. But they better watch out: Runners in Milan have announced their intentions to get the most Santas to come to town.
